Michael Irvin is an idiot.

ESPN football commentator Michael Irvin made the following comments about Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo on Dan Patrick's radio show:

"He doesn't look (emphasis added) like he's that type of an athlete. But he is; he is, man. I don't know if some brother down in that line somewhere, I don't know who saw what or where, his great-great-great-great-grandma ran over in the 'hood or something went down."

And after the host of the show made an attempt to save him and bring him back to the PC world that the rest of us live in Irvin just digs in deeper:

"If great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandma pulled one of them studs up out of the barn, 'Come on in here for a second,' you know, and they go out and work in the yard. You know back in the day."

Where to start? First off, if any caucasian were to refer to any black man in the context of pulling "one of them studs out of the barn" he would be branded immediately as a racist - no questions asked.

Second. Jimmy the Greek. If you are not a die-hard sports fan and know of whom I am speaking but Irvin's comments are news to you then you are evidence of the double standard. Jimmy the Greek made analagous (note analagous, not the same) comments and was chastised by a nation and promptly joined the unemployment line. Michael Irvin appeared tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live (or whatever the hell that joke of a show is called) and there wasn't even a mention of his comments. If Irvin still has his job at the end of the week (which he most likely will, barring any more problems with the coke,) then there is something seriously wrong with this nation.
